Call Sheet / Kwikset

Actor/Comedian John Little 3/29/11

Spent the last few days putting together the pieces for a great humor driven campaign for Kwikset. Working with creatives John Vitro, Elliot Allen, Kevin Cimo of VITRO and the production company of 13 Keys, the talent and crew were a joy to discover and collaborate with. As the day evolved I shot some portraits of the team. Enjoy.

Max Gerber Street Theatre

It looks like a Banksy grafitti piece in progress...an imaginary portal into another space, a bright shiny window and maybe its broken? Max Gerber sets these up with paper and tape and a step stool and creates his studio. The tape rips the surface of the wall a bit and that becomes part of the composition.....just let it be. Max met me in LA in the midst of a bried visit and we found time to do this. He did it, I watched, and then I was his subject. He created the best portrait I've even seen of myself: 43, kinda confident, kinda insecure...its all there in the photograph and so easy to accept. And then, when the portrait is done, the window is left there. Now it's either trash...or something inspiring for other's to do with it what they want. Peace. T.A. by Max Gerber, 3/2011

Bee Trap

Q: So, how do you put one foot in front of the other?
m
A:What you don't understand is that these structures I had built over the years...these things have been made by master craftsmen. The complex engineering and retrofitting they implement have been designed by internationally known architects. People stand back in awe when they view them. Nothing shakes them, these things are in place and they work every time.
m
Q: You know you are kidding yourself, right?
m
A: Oh, totally.

I kinda love it.
m
UK designer Dave Thomas created this inspired poster for James Bond Season at Forest Theatre Guild, Carmel By The Sea, CA. Just got word this was entered in the UK's Chip Shop Award Competition, 2011.

Sunny, Phoenix Arizona, 1996

Sometime around 1994 my sister Sue moved to Phoenix, changed her name to "Sunny", got a job at a place called "The Y'all Come Back Saloon", met Joe Massey, and adopted two dogs named Bingo and George. She and I made this picture in an alley behind my house...I was 28 and it was Joe Massey's eagle. We knew the light was pretty that night and made the picture as an experiment...just play acting everything. I had a forthcoming show and needed to crank out some work...she agreed to help me.

Sunny is fighting the fight this year, this month, this week: Leukemia, Bone Marrow Transplant, Chemotherapy. Now is the time to send the positive vibrations her way, even if you don't know her...or me...but you feel like you do.

Amen.

Focusing The Rays Of The Sun

Q: Are you trying to study that thing or burn it?
A: Burn it.
Q: Oh. That's cool. But you know you aren't supposed to look right at the bright spot, right?
A: I know...I know.

Colin Pantall's Book Is So Great

Did I get the first copy to land in the states? Maybe...
m
Colin Pantall's book "Sofa Portraits" arrived directly from Bath, England last week.
What comes to mind when leafing thru it? Oh...lots of things.
m
Handmade, hand stitched...my wife was charmed by the book qualities and how intimate of an object it was. Me...I didn't care about the book construction, it was the images that spoke to me.
m
Seeing the project collected like this, you really get taken into the inner life of this child, the spectrum of emotions and the thoughts within her head.
m
Watching these emotions is like watching a cloud darken and then erupt with rain: the changes are subtle and imperceptable, but at the end it all hits you...and in a big way.
m
If you want to learn the secrets of these images, the book is how you get them... and get to revisit them. See it HERE. Buy it HERE.

Nicole Daedone / One Taste SF

Nicole Daedone / One Taste SF
mFebruary ended quickly....just 28 days....and I almost forgot to run this portrait of Nicole Daedone shot for 7 x 7's Love and Sex Issue. Sz, make up stylist Meaganne McCandess and I spent the day at the One Taste compound and with their generous co-operation, worked with them on creating this image.

Kickball Field

Q: So when you go home, what do you think you are gonna find?
A: All the answers! And all the stuff I left there too.
